You go to buy a single embroidered hat, but find that if you purchased 50 or even 500 it would be much cheaper per product, you may wonder why this is. The truth is there are many factors to consider, however, we’ll outline a few of the more important elements below:

Setup time: It takes just as much administration and setup time for a single cap to be embroidered as it does for 500. Assuming it’s just 1 person involved in the setup and administration of your order, when you split that person’s hourly wage across 100 units, compared to 1 unit, the rate becomes a much smaller proportion of the order.

For example, if that person was paid £20 an hour, on 1 embroidered cap 1 hour of their time would be £20. However, across 100 units it would be just 20p per capt. While this is quite a basic example, which doesn’t reflect the true time, people and costs, it illustrates how the savings can add up very quickly. This setup time also has to pay for the people answering customer questions, putting together mockups, setting up the machines, digitizing your artwork alongside many other tasks that go on behind the scenes. 

It’s not retail: Every order is totally unique, and with that means unique threads, administration time and other elements that you wouldn’t find in a standard retail environment where they simply buy in thousands of the same product with the same design.

Materials: As well as people's time, we also have to factor in the cost of the materials. We use the gold standard Madeira Threads, as well as premium inks and retail quality products. With this comes an inherent cost. While there may be others out there that are cheaper, we’re confident we’re the best.
